Admissions at Kolmac: Start outpatient treatment within one business day
The first step to getting help is knowing that you need it. The second step is reaching out.
At Kolmac, we strive to keep the admissions process simple. We handle your insurance verification and let you know exactly what to expect in terms of out-of-pocket costs.
Once we complete an initial eligibility screening, you’ll be scheduled to meet with a licensed clinician quickly. In most cases, you can be in treatment within one business day of your first call.
How our admissions process works
Kolmac makes starting simple. Our team handles all the details and ensures that most patients can finish the entire admissions process quickly.
Step 1: Contact us and verify insurance
Call our team or request an appointment online.
Before committing, our admissions team verifies your insurance and informs you of all expected out-of-pocket expenses.
Step 2: Schedule your evaluation
You’ll be scheduled for an evaluation with a licensed clinician following the completion of your initial eligibility screening.
Please have your insurance details, medical background, current medications, and any treatment-related questions prepared for our conversation.
Step 3: Begin treatment
After we’ve evaluated you, we’ll recommend the right program for you and help you get started.
Treatment can commence within a single business day of our first contact, available at our physical sites or virtually, and tailored to your specific needs.
What to expect at your evaluation
Your intake evaluation takes about 45 minutes; phone or video can usually take up to an hour. The assessment will cover your substance use, mental health, previous treatments, and medical history to help us suggest the appropriate care plan for you.

Following that, you’ll collaborate with our clinician to identify the program that best suits your needs and goals.
For family members: Getting help for a loved one
Many people reach out to Kolmac because they’re concerned about a loved one.
You can speak with our admissions specialists to understand the nature of the treatment, the expected steps, and strategies to motivate your loved one to commit to treatment.
Patient confidentiality rules mean we can’t disclose everything about someone undergoing treatment, but we can give you all the information you need to help them get there.
For healthcare providers: The referral process
Kolmac works closely with a network of physicians, counselors, employee assistance professionals, social workers, and attorneys who refer patients for outpatient treatment.
We process and admit referred patients promptly.
Referral partners can expect written progress reports, phone consultations, and updates throughout every phase of treatment.
You can refer a patient by calling (888) 331-5251 or by submitting an online request through our referral partner page.
What happens after admission
Treatment at Kolmac involves several phases, including detoxification, IOP, and continuing care.
Virtual detox
At Kolmac, we prioritize accessibility to detox for all individuals seeking help. We understand that extended inpatient treatment may not be possible for all individuals, so we’ve developed a home-based option.
Through a comprehensive medical evaluation and screening process, we identify suitable candidates who can begin their detox from the comfort of their own homes.
Partial hospitalization program (PHP)
For patients who need the highest level of outpatient structure, PHP provides several hours of clinical programming per day without an overnight stay. It often serves as a step between detox and IOP, or as an entry point for those who need more support than IOP provides. Availability varies by location.
PHP is offered at Arlington, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Bryn Mawr, and is not currently offered at our Maryland locations.
Intensive outpatient program (IOP)
Following detox, your IOP begins. Sessions run 3 to 4 days per week, totaling 9 to 12 hours of structured treatment that combines group therapy, individual counseling, and educational programming.
As you progress, your care team will adjust the frequency and structure of your sessions based on your clinical needs.
Individual treatment and family support
Additionally, we can organize individual therapy sessions and family support groups during this time, providing comprehensive and personalized care.
Continuing care
When you reach the continuing care stage, you will attend group therapy for two hours every week. This involves monthly lessons to track your development.
How long this stage lasts can change depending on what you precisely need.
Care for a lifetime
Kolmac’s clinical team is here to provide compassionate, evidence-based care at every stage of your treatment.
Our clinical team will treat you with kindness, understanding, and respect.
